Contemporary, verdant Garden Design

Tufnell Park - North London

We designed our Tufnell Park Garden for a family in North London. The brief requested a contemporary garden divided into “rooms” or different zones for dining, cooking, relaxing and entertaining. Our clients needed to include a garden studio workspace to work from home along with storage while retaining the large existing Bay tree. We strategically placed seating areas around the garden to maximise enjoyment of the sun as it moved through the space, with deep built in sofas at the rear of the garden to catch the much-loved evening sun.

 

Clever cedar-clad storage surrounds the recessed seating area near the house, providing ample room for garden items, cushions, etc. The powder-coated Corten seating surround adds an architectural detail that ties in with other CorTen elements within the garden.

The abundant and verdant planting offers year-round interest for our clients. Giant tree ferns and other rarely seen evergreen plants with varying textures and shades of green create a layered tapestry of planting and a lush exotic feel to the garden.

 
 

Materials were selected to provide harmony and cohesion with tones of warm greys and CorTen details. We love finding unique elements to include in our designs and the reclaimed cast iron tiles add a special detail here.

We designed the garden studio to be slightly sunken below ground level, maximising internal height while ensuring the external height did not dominate. The large windows on both sides offer a clear view from the interior of the house to the rear of the garden and planting beyond.
